General FAQ
What is Youth RA and who is it for?
Youth RA is a free program for justice-involved young people ages 18–24 in Los Angeles County. If you've been involved in the justice system and you're ready to take a next step toward school, a career, or figuring out what's possible, this program was built for you. You don't need to have everything figured out. You just need to show up.
How do I apply or get referred?
Applications are free on our Apply & Refer page. You can also be referred through your probation officer, social worker, or case manager. We'll follow up directly to confirm your spot and next steps.
What do I get from attending camp?
Every participant receives a laptop, stipend, and a certificate of completion. You'll get workshops on financial literacy, career exploration, communication, and goal-setting. You'll also leave with a network of people who stay in your corner.
How can I support my young person through the program?
Encourage them to participate fully and complete the program. Be curious about what they're learning. When they come home with a certificate and a laptop, celebrate it.
What should I know before my student attends?
How does Youth RA stay in contact after camp ends?
Youth RA provides support in a structured and engaging environment. Participants have limited phone access during sessions. Staff are present throughout the duration of all programs.
Graduates join the PEP alumni network. Staff check in at minimum every 15 days in the first year. As new opportunities emerge such as jobs, scholarships, events, leadership trips, our alumni hear about them first.
What outcomes does Youth RA produce?
In an independent Cal Poly Pomona evaluation (2026), 100% of participants reported increased confidence after the program. Community reentry programs are associated with a 34% reduction in recidivism for men and 44% for women (Anti-Recidivism Coalition, 2025).
What documentation can Youth RA provide?
Upon request: program overview and curriculum outline, outcome data and evaluation summaries, certificate of completion, staff bios, and PEP organizational overview. Contact us through Apply & Refer.
How do I refer a participant?
Submit a referral on our Apply & Refer page with the participant's name, age, region, and brief context. They complete a short interest-based application. Our Program Manager follows up with you and the participant directly. Upon completion you receive a confirmation and certificate copy.
